Pepsi, Coca Cola, Soda Video Montage
My list has several things on it, but coincidently I would put:
Soda
Sharing with my Friends
Progressive Pop music form the 80's and
Blogging
All on that list.
SO, imagine my pleassant suprise when a friend e-mail em to share something with me (Item #2). His son was goffing around on You Tube and made a video montage of Soda (Item #1). The music that it is 'scored' to is 'Video Killed the Radio Star' by the Buggles (Item #3). He wanted to know if I wanted to put it in my Blog. (Item #4).
Home Run, right?
You'd be a real pal if you watched the video and them commented both his entry and mine!
Ch-ch-check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CH1h2P1vh94

Motley fool is not down with Jones Soda
They could be the coolest soda Ever, and I even built an 'Ever' page for them here.
Their home page is here.
HOWEVER, Motley Fool (the investment guys) were not altogether impressed with their Holiday Gift Packs. (The holiday gift packs are here.)
Their scathing article (which, in fairness, is also a comprehensive few of the Soda market as just that...a market) is here.
So crack open a soda...even a Mountain Dew or a Dr. Pepper...and read up on the sodas in YOUR life

I've got a friend at work who swears by Diet Rite. I told him to write the article and i'd publish it. After all, Diet Rite is soda...and Soda is Good!

Jones Soda vs. Red Bull
Much of it IS a 4th grader's homework assignment.
But I found something today that I REALLY liked.
It's a table-top 'battle' between Jones Soda and Red Bull.
The cans and bottles move across the table almost seamlessly, and fight to the finish!
Imagine...bottles of uniquely labeled Jones Soda, versus cans of the sleekly packaged silver-and-blue Red Bull.
You can watch the Flavorful Fist Fight here.
And, in fairness to both competitors, let me share an interesting tidbit on each.
You can read an in depth study on why Red Bull is as stimulating, artistic and historical as Origami here. (Yup, one's a drink and one is an art....but they are the same!)
You can see the Limited Edition Seattle Seahawks Jones Sodas here.
(Sounds nutty, but it's really cool!)
You can see the Coke vs. Pepsi lens, which features ALL Things Soda, here.

1 part Coke, 3 part Dr. Pepper, 1 part Football
Yeah, like my 6 year old nieces haven't thought of that already.
But here is a suggestion that i have likely overlooked all these months: 1 part Dr. Pepper and 3 parts Coca Cola.
Hmmmmmmm...(slurrrp)........not bad.
Kinda' like a really sweet Cherry Coca Cola.
(By the Way, we have 4 cans left in the house. I gotta thank Jay Z for making this soda visible enough for me to find!)
So we're eating lunch, and we're talking Football.
Not sure if YOU watched any ball this weekend, but there were some great games.
In fact, many of the 'lower tier' games were VERY entertaining, and some expected 'blow outs'
turned out to be anything but! (My daughter's Philadelphia Eagles fought the New England Patriots toe-to-toe!)
I was also proud to see my horrible Oakland Raiders fight back to win a game. IN CONFERENCE no less! About time, boys! In fact, between Oakland winning and Randy Moss accomplishing NOTHING against the Eagles, I had a Sunday worthy of a Rum and Coke...or at least a Pepsi with lime.
Drink Soda, watch football.
Buy sodas that have Football players on the can, here.
Read MORE about Soda here.
Be sure, tomorrow, to come back 'here'.

Leftover Turkey and Coca Cola
With all this left over food, I thought I'd see if there were any recepies for Leftover Turkey and Coca Cola or Pepsi.
You can find the Turkey with Coke recepie here.
You can find a recepie for Coca Cola Barbeque Chicken (not Turkey) here.
Coca Cola Salad recepie (to eat WITH your leftover turkey) here.
Coca Cola Ham (in case you do not WANT anymore Turkey) here.

3 Cherry Cokes and a Bright Idea
Cracked open a can and...Mmmmmm.
I drank 3 in a one-hour period, which is rare for me. I'm the type who sinks one...m-a-y-b-e a second one...and then feels guilty and drinks water the rest of the night.
But this night was special. Not only because I discoverd a new Coca Cola flavour that I like, but because I entered into a potential partnership with a friend who has a business that I like.
The question isn't WHETHER we will work together, but how soon.
As the deal comes together, I'll share more, and I'll make sure that readers of this blog get free stuff. YAY free stuff!
Yup, it's true. Free magazines, free music, all kinds of discounts on his products and if I can swing it...maybe a free soda.
In the meantime, you can always check out www.Squidoo.com/CokevsPepsi and find all things Soda that aren't here! :)

Well, wouldn't you know it. Some one got around to making light of those 6 soda botttles before I could! Normally, I would curse my bad luck and wish a plauge of commputer viruses at said commentary...but it's REALLY funny and the comments left by readers were just as humorous.
So, I tip my hat to "MMMMMM Drink Up".

The Difference between Pepsi and the Pope
HOWEVER, a little research into what kind of soda the Pontiff prefers led me to this interesting tidbit.
Author Denise Duhamel, in her book Queen for a Day, writes a poem called The Difference betwen Pepsi and the Pope.
I wante to share a link wiht you that best describes the poem..but hte best site I found is really a review of a BUNCH of poems, with Duhamel's near the bottom. It's here.
If you don't want to read the whole page looking for the Pepis-and-Pope references, allow me to cut-and-paste some intersting facts for you:
(In) The Difference between Pepsi and Pope" tells about a flaw that Duhamel has in the right side of her vision:
so that often I get whole words at the end of sentences wrong
like when I first saw the title of David Lehman's poem"The Difference Between Pepsi and Coke" and I misread"Coke" for "Pope."
This blind spot makes me a terrible driver.
She admits that she prefers Coke, mostly because of the "wavy hyphen" that separates "Coca" from "Cola"
Her final analysis on the difference between Coca-Cola's rival and the Cheif of the Vatican?
Pepsi is bubbly and brown while the Pope is flat and white.
Pepsi doesn't have a big white hat. The Popecan't get rid of fender rust.
Pepsi is all for premarital sex.
The Pope won't stain your teeth.
I LOVE this Poet!!!!

Christmas Shopping? How about Christmas Soda?
Wait, your Mom is hosting Christmas this year, right? And she's going to need to serve stuff, right? What about Christmas Flavored soda?
And not just ONE flavor...FOUR flavors!
Jones Soda offers a 2007 Christmas Pack! The Four flavors include Christmas Ham Soda, Christmas Tree Soda, Egg Nog Soda and Sugar Plum Soda.
Sounds nutty? Don't knock it 'till you've served it! Mom will LOVE the colorful bottles and the holiday theme. And look at it this way...worst case scenario, she re-gifts it for one of her co-workers later in the month!

What happened to free refills?
The waitress tells me they serve Pepsi here.
Hell, I don't care. I just want a cola that doesn't taste like Gasoline....
So we're more than half way thru lunch and it's hard to get the waitress' attention to BEGIN with...and all I want is a refill. Finally, falling just short of standing on the table and yelling 'YOO HOO! Over HERE!". I get her attention and the refill.
Soon after, we're ready for the check.
Not so suprisingly, that comes a helluva lot faster than the refill.
Geez...this bill looks a bit high. Not 'exorbitant', but still higher than I expected.
I take a quick glance at the check, and there it is:
They charged us for refills.
Look, if I order a BEER, I expect to get charged for each one.
Maybe a buy back if I'm sitting at the bar and I tip well.
But charge me for a SODA refill?!
CAH MAHN!
What do these soda fountain drinks cost the restaurant per serving? A quarter? 50 cents?!
(Hey...seriously. If you own/run a restaurant and you know the answer, be sure to leave a comment!)
Traditionally, I do NOT return to a eatery if they charge me for refills on Fountain Soda.
I even felt 'beat' once because the waiter in Chili's talked me into a second bottle of Creme Soda and then charged me for it...but that was a bottled soda that he served me (I poured it myself, so I know!) so I sorta' gave him a pass.
But Fountain Soda Refills??!?!
Uncool.
It's back to Burger King for me. The refills are always free.

Best Soda Ever? Ask Flikr!
Mr. Jones (Soda) and the Seattle Seahawks (Football)
(See here!)
Now, of course, you'd have to be a fan Seattle Seahawks fan. (The GOOD news is that they are leading the NFC West. The BAD news is that they are 4-4. That's doesn't speak volumes about their indominable will).
Next, you'd have to be a fan of Jones Soda.
(15 flavors of BottledSoda. Canned Soda, too! 2 Energy Drinks - 1 called WHOOP ASS! 3 Natural Flavored Drinks. I can go on...but you should go see for yourself!)
So, if you are going to sit down and watch a Seattle Seahawks football game, why not do it with a bottle of Jones Soda in your hand? Heck, why not do it with a picture of your favorite player on the bottle?!
In fact, why not go nuts and get the Limted Edition Seahawks Collectors' Pack?!?!
After all, what kind of diehard fan ARE you?!
Jones is a fun soda, and the Seahawks need your support right now.
No, really, right now. Why aren't you calling four of your friends and telling THEM about Jones Soda?
And go easy on the Whoop Ass! You're gonna hurt somebody!

Mr. Jones and his Beer...Root Beer.
So, I'm on the Jones Soda website, and I click the 'flavors' link...and what shows up as today's flavor? This big picture of a bottle of Root Beer!
And who is sitting with me at the computer when the picture shows up? That's right, my 6 year old son. (Surely you recall my post about him discovering Root Beer?)
And he's reading the label out loud, to him self.
"Roo...root...Root Beer! Is that Root Beer?"
"Yes it is."
"Poor Cane Sooger?"
"Pure Cane Sugar" I correct him.
"This Root Beer is made with Sugar?" he asks.
"Mmm Hmm. Lot's of it!"
Well, that sure as hell made his day. He asked if he can have some. (we don't have any). Can I go buy some? (The locals stores here in town don't carry it. Jones DOES sell on the internet...). Can we order some? (Not right now, son). Can we order a LOT?! (Isn't it your bedtime, son?)
Maybe I'll print out the picture for him He can use another picture in his room.
Jones Soda will soon appear on Coke vs. Pepsi!

Coke or Coors? Soda or Beer?
Sure, many are 'fizzy' like a soda...and yeah, they make you Burp.
But let's face it...a Beer is not a Soda.
Some beers are NOT fuzzy, and yet they still qualify as a 'good' beer.
As a SodaGuy, I say 'bleaughghg'.
Some beers are to be drunk room temperature.
Ever drink a room-temperature Soda?
As a SodaGuy, I say 'YEUCHCH'.
Some beers are dark, and some are light.
Some Sodas are dark (cola) and some are light (Lemon lime)
As a SodaGuy, I say "Root Beer, Birch Beer, Light Beer...can't we all just get along?"
Most beers, when poured, have a 'head' on them..the frothy, foamy stuff that makes a mustache on you when you try to take a sip. My Mom's boyfriend insists that this is the best part of the beer, and guys who pour a beer on an 'angle' to avoid the froth are wussies.
As a SodaGuy, I say, Stuff it, Stan. I don't need a beer mustache to be a man. After all, I have a goatee!
All this being said, there is a great place to rate your favorite beers and a great place to rate your favorite sodas:
Discuss and rate Beer here. (this is a cool site, and the logo is so life-like that it makes me thirsty every time I go there! Visitors beware, Jay knows you like beer!)
Discuss and rate Soda here. (this is a fun site, and if anyone is egging Coke and Pepsi to walk out into the street with their knives and guns drawn, it's them!)
By the way, the answer to my earlier question is "YES...we all CAN just get along!"

Collectible Soda Cans
Today is no different.
So people have collectible soda cans. Some people have a WEBSITE called "collectible soda cans"! Whether you are in the first group or not, you might be impressed by the owners in the second group! Click here: http://home.comcast.net/~collectiblesodacans/
I know that I'm both clumsy and careless, so if I had a collection of tin cans I'd accidently and inadvertantly destroy them in weeks. But THIS guy hase a Huge-MUN-Gus collection that is apparently in pristine condition! TONS of photos, lots of information...and fun stuff you can buy!
No, I don't make a nickel if you visit his site or buy a soda can, so don't do it for me. Do it for your love of colorful soda cans....many of which you've never seen before!
And be sure that Collectible Soda Cans will appear on the Coke vs. Pepsi lens!

Pepsi, Coca Cola Cans for Sale. Empty, of course.
So, I'm on Google and I am thinking 'How do I parlay this idea into a blog post on my Soda blog?' Because you all know how much I like to write about soda. Right?
Well, just for fun I search "Garage Sale"+"Pepsi".
And there it is. Some dude has a website advertising the empty soda cans he has for sale.
ANd he's not ANY dude...he's a Brew dude. It's true! Ask him!
Now, in fairness to said dude, the cans area all collectible. They're also kinda' cool.
I've never met Brew Dude. but when I saw his site, I saw 3 things that immediately caught my eye:
1) Coca Cola
2) Pepsi
3) Mountian Dew
When your blog is called "SodaIsGood" then you only need those 3 things to get your eye caught!
Anyway, he seems like a good guy with some good soda cans, so check it out here:

Club Soda...You got NUTHIN'!
Remember what it is? You don't?!
It's a Coke with No Ice and some Lemon. Pay attetnion!
My friend orders a Club Soda.
"With Lime?" the waitress asks.
"Uh...hmmm...OK."
I was sorta suprised he had to think about it. I mean, I know what Club Soda tastes like...do you want a lime flavor added to it or not?! There are no calories to concern yourself with. No one's diet ever got skewed because they put lime in their club soda.
No allergies to worry about, either. (Uh, excuse me miss...was this salad made with Lime? I'm allergic to lime. Sure, I'll have a Corona, but for God Sakes..NO LIME! I break out in a horrible rash when I have lime...)
Anyway, our drinks arrive, and I take a gulp of mine. Cold, yes. But syrup-y. And not horribly carbonated. This came fresh from the diner fountain, and it's time to add some CO2!!!
I look over at HIS drink. Clear, carbonated...it's bubbling like mad! Like a beach party for bubbles! Hey! Look at all of us bubbles! There are a LOT of bubbles in here, and we are having a GREAT time! The water is cold and refreshing, and this big ol' wedge of lime is just floating around and chillin' with us! YAAAAAAY!
Maybe once or twice a year I crave a seltzer or a club soda. Truth be told - I crave it, I drink it and then I say "mmm...nope. Not really diggin' it." and return to my flavoured-soda habit.
All diet jokes aside, you really CAN'T hurt yourself or your figure too badly drinking Club Soda. You ever look at the Nutrional Information Lable on a Club Soda or Seltzer?
Serving Size - 1 can or bottle (16 fl oz)

NOTHING! This is glass of bubbles having fun in some cold water! 6 milligrams of sodium aside, you've got NOTHING here!
I found a website with Club Soda recepies and it defines club soda as 'plain water infused with cardon dioxide'. Even the definition has nothing!
The glass may be half empty or half full...but it's either a glass filled with syrup and calories, or a glass filled with a bunch of bubbles having a good time.
And maybe some Lime...

Root Beer, son.
Truthfully, I don't mind store brand soda. As a rule, I won't drink store brand Cola, but the Black Cherry is always good and the Lemon Lime is good enough. The Creme Soda is always yummy, although it's less carbonated than the other flavors and I always seem to finish the can w-a-a-a-a-y before i"m done with my meal!
So last night I pull a can of Creme Soda out of the fridge and take a gulp.
AUGHGHGH! This isn't Creme Soda! It's ROOT BEER!
Why did they color the Root Beer can the same ast he Creme Soda can??!?! Don't they know that I'm a 'visual' type and I count on these color-coding systems to make my life efficient and easy?!?!? BLEAUGHGH!
Pause...you see, it's not that I don't LIKE Root Beer. I do. Well, a little. I like STEWART's Root Beer. And A&W is nice and creamy. But generic Root Beer?! Not so much.
Worse still is that my taste buds are expecting Creme Soda, and here comes a flavor that is NOT Creme Soda. Brain and Taste Buds start to bicker...
So I'm throwing a mini tantrum (more confused than angry) and begrudgingly I sit down with the family to finish my meal. My 6 year old asks if HE can try the Root Beer.
Truthfully, I think he only asked becasue it has the word 'beer' in it. No, we don't let him try beer, but I think that was his motivation.
We also try to limit soda to an 'occassion' (like a party or a trip to a restraunt)...but here was an opportunity to allow him to try a new and somewhat uncommon flavor. (well, uncommon in MY neck of the woods. Maybe YOU drink Root Beer all the time? I didn't even TRY Root Beer until I was in my pre-teens).
Well...the boy takes a gulp and...HE LIKES IT!
He asks for MORE!
He asks if we'll BUY more!
Well, whaddaya know?
Anytime my son tries something new...and likes it!...I'm a proud papa.
Now, the next time we take a trip to the local Burger King or McDonald's, I'll check the soda machine for Root Beer. For the boy, of course.
Root Beer will be making an appearance at my Coke vs. Pepsi lens shortly.

Coke with Lime
I have to share it with you. Not so much because it's an in depth analysis of a cola beverage with a citrusy added flavour....but becasue it's a hilarious imitation of what my parents used to do when taking me and my brother on a trip somehwere. Today, my kids are 7 and 8, and I'm sure it won't be long before I'm doing it too!
If you've tried Coke with Lime...or if you just downright enjoyed the travel memories, be sure to comment me!

I Hate Peas...and Pepsi A.M. is no prize either.
He pointed me to an article on CNN.com that listed 8 failed foods. I Hate Peas was #2. (Reddi Bacon was #3, if you are curious).
Actually, you can find the page here.
As I scrolled down the list, I found:
"7. Pepsi A.M.
Creating a super-caffeinated soda worked well for the makers of Red Bull, but not for the folks at Pepsi. With 25 percent more caffeine than a cup of Joe, PepsiCo introduced the cola-flavored product in 1989, only to discover that most people just couldn't bring themselves to drink soda with their cornflakes. For those who wanted a Pepsi in the morning, regular Pepsi did just fine, thankyouverymuch.
Pepsi A.M., like the coffee-flavored Pepsi Kona before it, was scrapped after just a few months."
Where have I been? I used to get naseaus every morning that my brother cracked open a can of Coke...but to find out that Pepsi considered marketing it as a Coffee alternative?!?!?
Wikipedia defines Pepsi AM as "Contains more caffeine than a regular Pepsi and marketed as a morning drink. - No longer produced."
A Google search doesn't show too much else. There are a bunch of Blog posts that mention Pepsi AM, but none too kindly. (adn they usually make the same-breath comparison to Pepsi Kona - the Coffee-flavoured cola. I'll address THAT one in my next post).
Listen, really. How badly do you want to burp when you first get up in the morning? I don't drink Coffee, so I don't understand it's appeal as a Morning Beverage...but a COLA? Belaughghg.
I don't begin the process of teeth-rotting until lunch time.
Remember to keep up with the Cola Wars here.

Coke, Pepsi and 22 Immutable Laws
At a family member's house last night, my eye caught a row of books on a shelf in his dining room (Which doubles as his home office). Just the kinds of books I read!
I picked up the one called 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing and flipped thru it. While the majority of the information was always stuff I knew, I WAS humoured to see a TON of references to the Cola Wars!
Each chapter, albeit small, has a drawing to 'summarize' the chapter...and many of the chapters featured a 'Coke vs. Pepsi' concept. The chapter about competition says that if you want to be #2 (Pepsi) you have to do what #1 does (Pepsi). Another one says there are really only 2 players in the field, and everyone else is forgotten. The picture they use says "Coke...Pepsi...Royal Crown WHO?!". The chapter on diversification uses 7-UP as an attempt to avoid the COLA wars.
Further within, there are references to the cola wars in the text. Much of it escapes me now as I went from 'reading for concepts' to 'counting Coke-and-Pepsi references'!
The Coke vs. Pepsi battles should (and likely will) appear in Marketing books and classes of all kinds, as they clearly demonstrate the 22 marketing principles and they feature brands and products that everyone knows and understands.
Perhaps one day my Coke vs. Pepsi lens will appear in those books and classes, too:

I just got a Vault...Coca Cola
So yesterday I go to White Castle, and what's this new beverage on the line? Vault?! I heard of Vault..but isn't that like Red Bull or something? No? OK, let me give it a taste...
oooooh that's sweet! I don't sweet like "Wow, I got a $1,000 bonus! SWEET!" I mean more like "Wow! I can feel my teeth rotting! Sweet...."
Buutttt, I suppose if I cut it with Sprite It would be good, right? It works with Mountain Dew...
Mmmmm...much better!
Alright, so I figure that's my introduction to Vault.
But WAIT! Today I go to BK for lunch, and what's THIS on the soda machine?!
VAULT!
(Holy crap! This thing is everywhere!)
Well, not much to tink about today: 75% Sprite, 25% Vault, and I'm off to eat my Chicken Sandwich (garnished with Tomato and Onion Rings, thank you!)
Don't get me wrong...I can't honestly say that Vault has replaced Mountain Dew as my favorite Greenish-Yellowish Caffininated Beverage...but cutting it with Sprite is OK when offered!
This weekend, I'll have to remember to add Coca Cola's Vault to my lens:

Go Shopping, buy Soda Stuff
I found this: http://www.pepsistore.com/
A place to shop for all things Pepsi.
But then I said "Hmmm...I wonder if there is the same thing based on Coca Cola products?"
And sure enough, there is this: http://www.coca-colastore.com/
Now, as much as I enjoy drinking Pepsi...I think the Coca Cola store is MUCH more professional looking. Just my opinion.
I looked around some more.
You can go to the Mountain Dew Store...but you won't see a big Green Can waiting for you. That's not so cool in my book.
There's a Dr. Pepper Store, too. See here: http://www.drpepperstore.com/
Now THAT looks pretty sharp!
OK, last one...RC Cola Store: BZZZZZZNT! No such luck.

Disani or AquaFina? The choice is Clear.
My wife spends s-o-o-o-o-o, much money on the stuff. I just don't see it. If you have a filter on your tap you should be OK, right? After all, what do you think the restraunts serve you? If it's free, it came from a free source...like your sink!
Message to Wife: if you ARE going to stock the house with 12 packs of Great Bear, the LEAST you can do is re-fill them from the 5-gallon jug you make me buy each week...rather than keep going out and buying MORE! Not only will it save the environment...and save me some cash...it'll keep from leaving empty bottles of water all over the place!
There are enough 3/4-empty water waters laying around the house to bowl with! She drinks 'em. The kids drink 'em. The kids on the block ask for them. Water, water everywhere and still a drop to drink, to paraphrase a famous poem.
So, the next time I have to comtemplate Aquafina vs. Disani, I'll offer up the timeless challenge of Coke vs. Pepsi. At least Cola isn't poured into your glass from a 5-gallon bottle in the corner of your kitchen.

Pepsi, a kitchen aid, and some bad marketing
There is ALSO a product that makes it easier for you to fish Pepsi cans out of your refridgerator. It's a rectangular box that already has 12 soda cans in it, and you open it on an angle from the short side. It sounds complicated, but you see them everyday in the SuperMarket. It's called a fridgemate, and you can see it here: http://www.rapiddisplays.com/portfolio/pepsi.html
Now, here is what cracks me up:
I LOVE my FridgeMate (kitchen organizer), but no one I know has heard of it!
EVERYONE loves thier fridgemate (soda can retrieval), but no one I know knows it's called that!
So we have 2 great products with 1 great name that 0 people can identify.
We have 1 Soda Heavyweight and 1 Office Products lightweight and 0 recognition for their product.
That's irony at it's greatest.
I'm gonna go drink a Coke and mull it over...

Jay Z and Cherry Coke...what a combo!
She likes Hip Hop, and I like Hip Hop!
She likes to Blog, and I like to Blog!
She posted an article on her blog about a super wealthy Hip Hop artist and his association with Cherry Coke here: http://misstlc.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
And now I did, too! :)
Police and Pepsi..Copeland and Coke
Huge fan. I went to Giant Stadium last month to see their reunion show in New Jersey. GREAT show! I then went out and bout Andy Summers biography "One Train Later". While reading it, I recalled that I had Sting's biography also, and read portions of it to see if the 2 bandmates shared the same sentiment on topics.
By the way, before I get on to the History of Coca Cola and the like, let me mention: I am MORE than willing to sell both biographies. Not that I don't like them, but I find that after I read a book I out it away in a closet somewhere. If YOU want to read these, e-mail me at def_mall_owner@hotmail.com and we'll work out something. The Any Summer's book is only read once; the Sting bio twice.
But let's talk soda.
Would you think the member of the Police would particularly prefer 1 cola over the other?
Let's do the famed Google Soda Search and see...
If you search "Police" and "Pepsi" you see a ton of links about the Police playing at the Pepsi center. Yeah, we went thru that with Billy Joel a few weeks ago, so let's press on.
If you type "Sting" and "Pepsi" you find out that Pepsi is releasing the Sting Energy Drink! Canit be?! Can our favorite bass player be endorsing Pepsi's attempt to usurp the Red Bull Market?!!?
Sadly, no. The word 'Sting' was around long before Gordon Sumner started wearing his black-and-yellow soccer shirt on stage. Sorry boys, this is more about the bees than the bass.
However, in a 1999 interview I found, Sting was quoted as saying "One of the most joyful things humans can have is sexual union...I take sexual love very seriously. I don't treat it like a Coca-Cola or a hamburger. It demands a certain amount of ritual and seriousness. As well as fun."
OK. So maybe a Coca Cola is low on his list of 'quality beverages'...?
OK, well...there are 2 other members of the Police!
"Stewart Copeland"+"Coke" turned me on to a lot of cool blogs, albeit nothing about Stewart snorting or drinking coke.
"Andy Summers"+"Soda" ...nothing. NOTHING of interest.
Folks, the experiment has been carried out and the results, while not official, are in" The Police don't like Soda Pop.
Now e-mail me if you want to buy a book...

Coca Cola vs. Pepsi...and a better blogger than me.
Then, I came across this blog post from April, and I said 'you know...this guy is pretty good'. And since it's the beginning of a long weekend, why not just give someone else some credit and publish THEIR work today, right?
By the way, if you are one of those You Tube loving Goobers that likes to watch what happens when you mix Mentos with Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke...click here! I know there are several videos out there on the subject, but this one is a GUSHER!

Does Billy Joel prefer Coke or Pepsi?
The Piano Man himself, Billy Joel.
At a quick glance, it's not easy to see what Mr. Joel prefers. After all, I've never seen him along side Michael Jackson, Elton John or Paula Abdul in a soda ad.
SO, I went over to my one-size-fits-all problem solver.
Google.
Here we go: Type "Billy Joel"+"Pepsi" and find 164,000 pages
Now, Type "Billy Joel"+"Coca Cola"...136,000 pages.
WOW! Coke FINALLY gets it butt beaten by Pepsi!
But wait! 2 things occur to me:
1) the articles do not talk very much about the Piano Man drinks and
2) Billy Joel played some BIG shows at the Pepsi Arena... so Pepsi gets the plug on these pages.
But what does he DRINK?
Let's try something else: "Billy Joel"+"Drink"
Nope, nothing here I can use.
How about "Billy Joel"+"Coke"
uhghgh...this can't be good.
He refers to a 'spoon up your nose' in Big Shot, but that's not a testamen to his OWN preference!
I've got nuthin'.
If you picked Pepsi...You May Be Right.
And even if he prefers Cocal Cola...it's Still Rock n' Roll to me.

Fresca...as good as the Real Ting
We didn't want to make the same drinks and the same burgers as everyone else.
Some recommended that I serve Run-and-Ting.
Ting?
"Yeah!" he exclaims. "It's that soda from Jamaica. You never hard of Ting?!"
So, I look it up...and sure enough, it exists.
Grapefruity, cirtusy....yummy.
Yeah, well, I can't recall seeing Ting for sale anywhere in THIS town...and I don't feel like ordering a case from the manufacturer just to get the shipping cost down to $12.80.
"How about Fresca?" his wife suggests. "Isn't that really similar?"
AH! Fresca! I remember that stuff!
YEARS ago, I used to go on vacation with my grandparents, and the soda machine in the hotel always offered it. And I always DRANK it, because it was the only place I ever SAW it! (My Dad was a Pepsi drinker. My Mom drank Tab. That's how old I am. Tab cola...just 1 calorie...)
Fresca is a citrusy, grapefruity soda! And they have it right here in (enter favorite grocery store here)!
So we bought Fresca and I brought out the Rum and we drank.
And I crank until I fell down, but I really DID trip over the chair that I didn't see.
And it was good.
So just this past Sunday, we're at my brother-in-law's house having a BBQ. Real low key. Just a few of us guys and the wives and some hot dogs. (We ate the Hot Dogs. They weren't hanging out with us or anything like that).
Henry showed up an hour late. Well, that's Henry. He's got a bag with him.
In the bag are 2 can of Red Beans he wants to cook.
And a bottle of Fresca.
"Here, bro." he says, handing me the bottle. "No rum tonite, but I thought you'd like some Fresca."
Oh...I did!
Good soda, great memories.
Quick! It wouldn't be the Coke vs. Pepsi blog if I didn't ask: Fresca - Coke or Pepsi product?!
Give up?
According to the Wikipedia entry: "Fresca is a brand of citrus soft drink made by The Coca Cola Company."
Did you guess right?
Maybe if I had paid more attention to the OTHER soda cans in the soda machine all those years ago, I would have known the answer, too...

Quick! Fanta - Coke or Pepsi product?!?!
I'm standing at the Soda machine and I almost ALWAYS get a Doctor Pepper at Burger King.
But as I reach for a cup cover I see a drink that catches my eye.
Fanta.
My mind goes into a spin. "Fanta? Is that a Coke product? Hmmm...Doctor Pepper isn't a Coke product. Neither is Nestea. Is Fanta one of those Independent sodas? Aw maaaan...."
You see, once you start blogging about Soda, you think about it more and more.
Which COULD be considered weird, but...
So I get home and I go onto Wikipedia and do some research.
Before the answer poops up, I close my eyes and try to get the guess right.
I say..."independent soda".
I am wrong.
Fanta is a Coke product. And while the Burger King on Route 9 only carried 'orange', it turns out that they offer over 70 flavors world wide...however, most of them are only available in some countries. Don't believe me? Click here.
In my head, I hear those Hispanic women singing "Fanta...dontcha wanta?!?!". Well, they did in that preview before SpiderMan 2...but that was a few years ago.
Head spinning, I wonder is Pepsi has over 70 citrus flavors available overseas?
I..uh...hmmm...Geez, I dunno. I don't THINK so.
And then it occurs to me...
...Who Cares? I don't drink Organge Soda, really.
Maybe once a year, just to see if I like it any better this year than last.
I pop the lid on my Doctor Pepper as the girls since "Fanta...dontch wanta?!?"
I don't, really, but apparently 70 foreign countries do.

Do the Beatles prefer Coke or Pepsi?
Take last month for instance, I was going thru an old box of cassettes and I came across "The Beatles 1962-1966" and "The Beatles 1967-1970". They were in great condition, and I decided they would probably fare well on eBay.
(they did, by the way. I mean, who doesn't like the Beatles?!?)
But BEFORE I decided to list it on eBay, I said "Hmmm...I wonder if the Beatles preferred Coke or Pepsi?"
Well, I gave it the old 'Google" test first.
I did a 2-phrase search...with one being "The Beatles" and the other being either "Pepsi" or "Coca Cola".
Pepsi scores 367,000 pages
Coca Cola 412,00 pages
Ok, rather close this first round...and a scan of the page listing shows no definitive answer.
So I try "Pepsi Cola" instead of "Pepsi" in the search, and only 43,00 pages show up.
Well, that makes sense.
We usually DON'T refer to it as Pepsi Cola.
I then decide to try 'Coke" instead of "Coca Cola".
As I hit enter, I brace myself for the responses.
The idea of looking up articles about the Beatles and Coke lead me to believe that headlines like 'How to make the Sgt. Pepper Album" or "Beatles like LSD, frown on Coke" will appear.
554,000 pages come up.
Nothing conclusive about the preference in soda OR drug choice at first glance.
Finally, I find this page.
While I do not know who Alan Gorrie is, there IS a line in the article that reads "I even had a scotch and coke (THE fave Beatle drink of the sixties) to toast his passage. See you around, George."
Could this be the answer?!
The Holy Grail of the Coke vs. Pepsi question...as it relates to the Beatles?
Without meeting Paul or Ringo, I don't know that we'll ever really know.
But I DO know that I got rid of some old cassettes.
So all these years later, the Beatles continue to serve my needs!

Halo 3 and Mountian Dew
I am a big fan of Mountian Dew...the original. I've tried a few of their other flavors, and hated them. Well, let me correct that. I hated the Baja blast. Very rarely will I drink a soda this is not marked 'Diet' and say 'wow, I hate this!', but Baja Blast Mountian Dew was taken back up to the soda fountain (at a Taco Bell, I believe), poured out (much to the Manager's chagrin), and replaced it with a Pepsi.
I tried their Code Red also...but quite frankly, I don't recall if I liked it or not. (I'm thinking not, becasue if the answer was 'not not' then I would remember it, and keep drinking it. Tell you what, I'm going back to Taco Bell on Tuesday, and I am 98% sure it's there. (Although the manager isn't. I am 98% sure he died of old age). Why don't I try it again and blog about it here on Wednesday?
And remember, Mountian Dew is a Pepsi Product...and you can find all kinds of neat-o information on Pepsi and Coke on my favorite-ist collection of soda information: http://www.squidoo.com/CokevsPepsi/

Dr. Pepper Museum! Lest we not forget...
But what about that spicy-cherry-flavored Dr. Pepper?
Which one is THAT?
Well, neither, ding-dong.
Dr. Pepper is owned by Cadburry Schweppes.
Ok, well, if there is a Coca Cola Museum and a Pepsi Museum...is there a Dr. Pepper Museum?
Oh, there most certainly is! See here: http://www.drpeppermuseum.org/
In fact, if you type "Dr. pepper" in Google, it's the #4 entry!
(Quite coincidentally...if you search 'Coca Cola' in Google, the Coke museum comes comes up #4 here, too! If you search'Pepsi'...well, I gave up at #32. No love for the Pepsi Museum!)
So drink your Dr. Pepper with pride today.
It's got a museum that it's proud of (in Waco, Texas!) and a taste neither Pepsi nor Coke have duplicated perfectly!
The History of Coca Cola persists here...
There is a Pepsi museum in New Bern, NC...but it's not the collossal structure (in size, magnitude or visitors) that the Coke museum is. In fact, whilePepsi may have been 'discovered' in New Bern (more on that in a later entry) they are actually HQ'd in Purchase, NY...and that city doesn't hold a 'big' Pepsi museum, either.
Not enough Pepsi collectibles or Pepsi collectors?
Again, this isn't a testament as to which is 'better'...just an observation of which does more to support the history, and those who follow it.

Music, Rum and Coke
She suggested that the soda-loving world would appreciate the You Tube audio of the Andrews Sisters "Rum and Coca Cola".
Listen Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNQaS37X7_o&mode=related&search=
Catchy 'eh?
You can fetch the lyrics and then sing along by clicking here: http://www.oldielyrics.com/lyrics/the_andrews_sisters/rum_and_coca-cola.html
ENJOY!
History of Coca Cola and Pepsi...and Google!
Did you know that there are roughly 12,000 pages of content when you search "History of Pepsi"?
That's not to say that Coca Cola has MORE history ... or even a more INTERESTING history...but there definately seems to be a difference in how much interest the public has for each.
Anyone who's paid attention to the Coca Cola company knows that "Coke" is treated like a religion in the South. There are museums and books and shops of Coca Cola collectibles.
That brings us to an even BIGGER gap:
Type "Coca Cola Collectibles" in Google....then Type "Pepsi Collectibles".
75,000 pages for Coca Cola
856 for Pepsi
Some difference!
A big reason as to why there are so many more pages for 'Coca Cola History' is because you have to include the history of the collectibles. There is also, obviously, a bigger story to tell.
Pepsi is a beverage...and a very good one.
Coke is a lifestyle. A religion. An Icon.
Neither is neccesarily 'better'...but significantly 'different'.
You can find your favorite Coke and Pepsi collectibles and paraphenalia here:

Pepsi's Taste in Music is 'Jazz'
They were only .99 each, so she thought she'd try something new.
"Pepsi Jazz"
"It's Cherry Vanilla flavour!" she tells me.
OK, but I notice something really NOT cool on the label: It's Diet.
Now, in fairness, there IS a non-diet version of Pepsi Jazz...she just didn't bring it home.
Well, I figure at .99 a bottle I can spill it right down the drain if it's that horrible, so I pour myself a glass.
It...was...pretty good!
And I don't LIKE Diet Soda!
Jazz really IS Cherry Vanilla flavoured, and it barely has that 'Diet Soda AfterTaste' that I hate so much!
Being a musicain, I can appreciate Jazz.
Being a soda drinker, I can even STILL appreciate Jazz.
Try it.
You just might like it.
These Soda Blogs didn't make it...
As I mentioned earlier, in an attempt to get this blog going I needed a cool name.
And all the cool ones were taken.
The WORST part is that they were taken by guys who typed 1 entry and then never came back!
HEY! Those were MY cool blog names! That's not fair!
Think I'm exatgerating? Go to:

Drink More Soda
Cola Wars (too obvious..I shoulda' known)
Drink Soda (to simple. Shoulda' figured that, too)
So, here we finally are.
This blog was inspred by my very favorite Squidoo lens: http://www.squidoo.com/CokevsPepsi/
Do you Squidoo? It's cool.
So, every...single...day...you will get to read my thoughts on Soda. Soda Pop. Cola. Call it what you will. Soda is Good, as my blog is called...and no one ever avoided the dentist while drinking Soda!
