Happy Belated Birthday!

Coke vs. Pepsi turned '3' last week...and like any bad Father I completely missed it's birthday because I was preoccupied with other things.

But like any GOOD Father, I acknowledged it as soon as I noticed it, drank a cold glass of cola and sat down to research the Top 7 Coke Versus Pepsi stories.

The Top 7 Stories is based on the number of times each page has been visited.
I can confirm fro first-hand experience that a few spammers have found 2 specific blog entries that they like to comment more than others...but a win is a win. There must be a reason why they picked THOSE entries (I'd like to think it was the great writing, gripping stories, fascinating content and witty catch-phrases I use. But who knows...?)

#3) Andy Warhol Coca Cola (9/12/08) - Would-be SPAMmers love this entry, which makes me happy and sad. I'd happy that whatever content I shared here gets enough public visibility that SPAMmers think it's worth commenting on. But I was hoping for a higher-brow audience.

#2) Pepsi and Coca Cola Sales Drop Drastically (4/08/09) - There seems to be a correlation between Cola blog traffic and articles about Cola Pricing. Which would speak to the higher-brow audience I alluded to in the above comment.

#1) The History of Coca Cola Prices (9/29/08) - High-brow audience wins again!!! Glad to see the most visited blog entry was something that didn't have the word 'MILF' or 'Dude' in the title!

I always enjoy compiling this list each year and looking back on how much traffic this blog gets.
Sure, it would have been nice for some '2010' posts to get on the list, but it's been a busy year and perhaps I just need to put more thought into future posts this year.

Next post should be titled "The History of Coca Cola Pricing Increases and the Google Searches about Pepsi Sales Decreasing that are equally Relevant"

...or something...!

Readers Prefer Andy Warhol Coca Cola

There has been an overwhelming response to our Andy Warhol Coca Cola article.
It's often our most-visited page.
(Some weeks it battles back and forth with our article on Coca Cola prices rising).

What is so pleasantly surprising is that I did not think Warhol would still be in such demand in this decade. His art, while popular at it's time, today seems simplistic to the point of nonsense.
100 Coca Cola bottles? Campbell's Soup cans?

The age of Grunge Music worked hard to "un-do" much of the love and simplicity that came out of the 60's...and while the grunge movement collapsed under it's own morbidity and lack of structure (when you stand against everything, you stand for nothing) a lot of the 60's influence suffered.

It's sort of like revealing the man behind the curtain. (a Wizard of Oz reference, of course). Sure, he's a nice enough guy...but now the magic is gone.

And yet, here we are in 2009 with people still REGULARLY searching information on Andy Warhol. And Coca Cola! And his Coke bottle art.

So...is art timeless? Are 3 Coke Bottles as interesting today as they were 30 years ago?

Or is it SODA that's timeless? Are people intrigued by this 'art' from the flower generation...or are they intrigued that Coca Cola was considered 'art' at all?

And who ELSE has made art from Coca Cola bottles and cans?
And why has it not reached the level of prominence that Warhol's work has?

Soda is Good.
Is Soda 'art'?
The majority so far seems to think so!

Andy Warhol and Coca Cola revisited

You may...or may not...be surprised to know how popular my post on Andy Warhol's Coca Cola art has been. When originally posted back in the Summer, I never expected that it would fast become one of my most popular pages.

The Andy Warhol museum website hosts a 'store'...but any search for Coke, Coca Cola, Soda or Coke bottles turns up nothing. (Well, that's not completely true. Searching "Coca Cola" turns up a BOOK about his artwork. I guess they mention the Coke Bottles somewhere in there.)

Have you seen the Andy Mouse New Coke Banner? It's designed to be a tribute to Warhol and Coke. You can quickly see the Warholism in it...

And, no thanks to any of you (snicker!) I found that if you go to Google and type "Andy Warhol Coke"...but you omit the quotation marks!...you WILL see the '100 Coke Bottles' print. You'll also see a 6 bottle print. SIX bottles?! That's gotta be a fake...

Andy Warhol Coca Cola

3 Coke Bottles or 100 Coke bottles?
I was looking up some information on Andy Warhol, and it turns out that his '3 Coke Bottles' silk screen was rather popular back in the day. You can buy it here at Art.com

But Wikipedia's entry on Warhol talks about a project he did called "100 Coke Bottles." The quote is/was:
Andy Warhol's first New York solo Pop exhibit was hosted at Eleanor Ward's Stable Gallery November 6-24th, 1962. The exhibit included the works "Marilyn Diptych," "100 Soup Cans," "100 Coke Bottles" and "100 Dollar Bills." At the Stable Gallery exhibit the artist met for the first time John Giorno who would star in Warhol's first film, "Sleep," in 1963.

I've tried to dig around the web-o-sphere to find the image, but cannot.

I DID find a quote credited to Warhol that says:
"What's great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coca Cola, Liz Taylor drinks Coca Cola, and just think, you can drink Coca Cola, too. A coke is a coke and no amount of money can get you a better coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the cokes are the same and all the cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it."

He makes a good point, even though I am not a fan of his art.
